ED GRANT'S ALL STATE FRESHMEN TEAMS

  

            As with the varsity teams, these are listed in alphabetical order in each case.

            Picking freshman teams is not an easy matter, particularly with the boys where some of the
top performers run basically a varsity schedule over the 5K distance, some alternate between the 
freshman and varsity races and some never get to run a varsity race at all. There is also often a lack 
of direct confrontation among the top runners from various areas of the state---the long series of 
early-season races this year between Jeff Coore of Franklin and Brandon Pierson of CBA was the 
exception, not the rule. 

           It is a little different with the girls with most of the top performers running varsity all year (except, 
of course, in class meets where they get a chance to show their wares at the shorter freshman distance 
and against some of their peers). As usual this year, the first team is composed of runners who excelled 
on the varsity level---seven members, for example, were among the top 50 finishers at the all-group meet.
