Notes: A
few words of explanation are perhaps necessary here to clarify some of the
differences between this team and the one already published in the Newark
Star-Ledger.
The most
obvious difference is that the New Jersey Track all-state team is open to all
boys and girls attending high schools in New Jersey. The Star-Ledger all-state
teams include only those who attend full member schools of the NJSIAA (except,
curiously, for its girls’ all-state hockey teams which are regularly dominated
by members of the Lawrenceville School squad.)
Another
difference is that the Star-Ledger limits athletes to one event, a holdover
from team sports where boys or girls can play only one position at a time. As
you will note, several NJ Track selectees are listed in several events,
reflecting truly their performances during the past season.
We have
also chosen this year to ignore the results of the AG 100M and 110/100M hurdles
races since no true finals were conducted in either event. Selections for
several other events, notable the boys’ 3200R, were also affected by the
absence of top entries due to the time schedule.
