Correspondence: School requesting the advancement of a runner to next round because bus arrived late. The request was denied because the tournament regulations clearly state that transportation problems are not an acceptable reason for such advancement. It was decided to include in the tournament regulations what every track coach knows: Events that start a meet are closed twenty (20) minutes before the official start time. This allows the meet to start on time, giving clerks time to set up the first race and giving field event contestants time to warm up and practice while the field event officials set up flights.
Parent complained about the stanchions may have been too close to the tracks during the relay meet she attended. This was taken care of by the Bubble Crew.
A coach made a request to extend the seeding procedures used in the relays to the sectionals. Since we received no complaints/suggestions/requests for modifications, after discussing the seeding situation and other means of clerking in the meets, the following procedures will be followed next year for the sectionals (public) and the Non-Public Group Meet:
NJRunner.com will continue what they did for the relays for these above mentioned meets.
Meet Director will download them as late as possible for each meet, copy them and place them in the coaches’ packets as a basis for their seeding.
Meet Management will download the latest updates 1 hour before each scheduled meet, and give a printout to the clerks to use for seeding each event. As in the case of the relays this year, if an athlete does not have a “Milesplit” time, the coach can submit a time, but that time cannot be in the “seeded” section of the event. It could be in the next best seeded section, but not the seeded section.
Same coach wondered why in the sections, the same event of 4x400 had one section of 9 and one of 3. The answer: Teams clerk in, heats are setup, when teams are called to the line to start the race, they scratch (almost always the slower-seeded teams) which will leave a heat of three that may have had six or seven when it was clerked, and too late to reseed.
Third item brought up by the same coach dealt with errors in results. Most of the time these errors are identification errors caused by typing in incorrect athlete computer i.d. numbers. They are human errors, but when brought to our attention, are corrected quickly.
Received a fax from a parent who was disappointed that her daughter could not take home a medal. She was tied for 6th in an event. Our policy is to give the medal to the first person who appears for the medal. The other person(s) will have a duplicate mailed to them via their school’s athletic director. Since this was a section meet, the medal should have been received by the school by now.
Meet Procedures Some discussion on whether or not we should use alleys in the Group Meets. The general consensus was that the Group Meet talent level is much “tighter” than the sections and Relay Championships, and therefore break points and hand-offs would be more open to problems than they are in the earlier meets. Therefore, it was decided to keep lanes for the 400 meter Dash and 4x400 meter Relay in the Group and Meet of Champion meets.
The use of Jersey City Armory was discussed to host the north sectionals. As long as there is a clause in the contract with the Armory that says our dates are tentative and may be changed by the Armory at any time, is a stumbling block that just cannot be overcome. This happened twice the last time NJSIAA scheduled meets there. It happened this season to another organization who had a meet changed from a morning meet to a evening meet the very day of the meet. Snow is the only factor we should have to deal with when in comes to maintaining a meet schedule. The Pole Vault solution of using a private venue may be a hardship to schools having to supply an additional bus for the same meet. You couldn’t have the pole vault the same day as the running events at two different sites, since many schools have only one coach. Some have suggested that the pole vault should be dropped from the program because of the few vaulters that participate when compared to other events.

The table shows that out of 204 possible individual pole vault medals, only 146 or only 72% were awarded.
In the relay event, out of 60 sets, 73% or 44 sets of medals were awarded.
Every other event had 100% of the medals awarded.
The pole vault will remain an event for next year.
Next season’s schedule. In all but the M of C, Girls will precede boys in the order of running events.
